A PAC Scholarship is being offered to a graduating senior at Pahrump High School. If you know a local student who intends to pursue a career in the arts, whether it will be in Music, Theatre, Film, Photography, Art or Dance, please direct them to the scholarship application found at http://goo.gl/yWxYX. The deadline is March 30, 2013. If you know any promising students, please direct them to this website.
SMART member George Wilson is spearheading painting of the mural on the water tank requested by the Pahrump Auto Plaza. Because the tank was not primed when originally painted, it is peeling and will have to be pressure washed and/or stripped, primed and repainted before the artists can begin work on the mural.
SMART has voted to donate to two charities. $200 will go to PAC each January for the scholarship fund beginning in 2014. In lieu of their previous annual open house, a “SMART Art in the Yard” event will take place behind the Pahrump Art Gallery. Dates will be noted in this publication when announced.
High Desert Shorts will be coming up May 23-26, and PAC was again offered a full page ad in the program. Thank you, Linda Kass!
PAC member Ondine Cestroni-Bradshaw was nominated for and chosen as the winner of the Ruby Award given annually by the local Soroptomist Club. She will receive her award on March 9th, accompanied by Joyce Higginbotham. Congratulations, Ondine!
Board Nominations—the Board has received applications for 5 potential board positions to be voted on at the general meeting in April.
Warren Dowler reported at the recent board meeting that his class on photographing the human head was a great success. He graciously donated the proceeds to PAC. If you are interested in more photography instruction, please call the office and leave a message for Warren.
Volunteers are needed to staff the door at the Chorale Concert on March 27. Please call the office and leave your name and phone number if you can help out. We have also asked the artists in PAC to once again provide an art exhibit for the concert. We had very favorable comments about the display in December. Thank you to everyone who displayed their beautiful art work, as well as the opportunity quilt.
Summer Art Program is going to be held in partnership with Nye Communities Coalition and the Pahrump Valley Youth Association. Volunteers are needed to teach such things as watercolor, acrylic, quilting, photography, singing, sculpture, etc. There will be several sessions throughout the summer. Please let the board know if you will be able to volunteer for any of these sessions.
The annual Pioneer Territory CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Mardi Gras fundraiser was held recently at Mountain Falls, with cocktails and a silent auction, Cajun dinner, and live music provided by Lynn Peterson and the Phat Katzz. MaRia Apodaca, a PAC board member and Nevada Silver Tapper, was crowned the Mardi Gras Queen. Congratulations, MaRia!
